Beira Baixa mountain honey

Unique traditional Portuguese product, known for its origin in the highest and most biodiverse regions of Beira Baixa, such as the Malcata, Açor and Lousã mountain ranges. This honey is distinctive as it is gathered from secluded, untouched environments, enhancing its purity and quality.

Main characteristics:

Various floral origins: Beira Baixa mountain honey is the result of the nectar of various wild flowers, with emphasis on heather, rosemary, chestnut, oak, broom and eucalyptus. The predominance of heather gives it a strong, slightly acidic flavor and a dense consistency, in addition to a dark, amber tone with a striking aroma and slight astringency.

Varieties:

In addition to multifloral honey, monofloral honeys stand out, such as rosemary honey (lighter and smoother) and heather honey (darker and more intense).

Properties:

It is an energetic food, rich in beneficial substances, with therapeutic properties recognized in folk medicine and valued both for its nutritional and gourmet value.

Production process:

Honey is collected through traditional methods, frequently employing transhumance practices that capitalize on the various blooming seasons across the year.

Beira Baixa mountain honey is, therefore, a natural, authentic and high-quality product, appreciated for its complex flavor and its beneficial properties for health.
